My journey as an artist began with Rosemaling, which is Norwegian flower/rose painting. Then I started growing gourds. What a unique surface to work on! My original idea was to put rosemaling on birdhouse gourds. But then I started learning how many different techniques can be used on them. One is limited only by one’s imagination! I started learning new forms of artistry that can be done on gourds, which come in many shapes and sizes. I still put rosemaling on birdhouse gourds of all sizes, but now I not only use oil paints, I also do woodburning and use ink dyes and alcohol inks as well as acrylic paint. I don’t make many ornaments for specific holidays because I want people to be able to leave them out year-round. No matter the size, shape or technique, I hope my creations put a smile on people’s faces.
