Karen Nell McKean

My two dimensional medium is oil painting and I also work in clay
sculpture. Since I am a Dreamwork Teacher, I often derive the subject
matter for my paintings from my dreams. You might find some of my themes
quite mysterious. My technique tends to be representational so my dream
paintings are in a magic realism style. The wonders of nature also
provide inspiration for my art, and my interests, styles and abilities
can be rather wide ranging. Besides imaginal images, they include human
and animal portraiture, impressionistic landscapes, whimsical styles,
and almost photo-realistic depictions. As an equestrian I dearly enjoy
painting horses too. I often find myself so engrossed in the painting
process, and the experience of representing a subject beautifully, that
I am carried into new creative directions thought the sheer joy of
painting. I naturally bring my spiritual perspective and joy to every
subject and am delighted when I have the opportunity to create something
someone loves. My vivid paintings usually feature qualities of
brightness and light effects. Some would consider me a colorist.

I hope my art makes people smile, feel uplifted, intrigued and inspired.
For me, making art is an expression of my soul.
