John Kiley
I paint abstract art using oil and cold wax. It is a process of adding multiple layers of paint and cold wax on a substrate to create an abstract image often employing solvent reduction techniques to meld colors and add texture and interest. Each painting is a journey to an unknown destination that can take up to several weeks to finally come to a conclusion. Marble dust, graphite powder, ash, soil are sometimes used to create depth and unusual texture. Marks, scratching, digging in layers to expose history also adds interest.
