Photography for me started during my teenage years with my own black-and-white darkroom and a classic Zeiss Ikon camera from my grandpa. I transitioned to digital photography at its dawn in the early 2000’s and have grown along with digital technology and processes. I enjoy the control that digital gives me over the entire process from concept to presentation.
I love cameras and I love light. My subject material usually awes me. The two main areas of my work for now are my Dominican photography and what I call my “up north” photography. I’ve traveled “up north” to the Lake Superior area since I was a kid, and taking photos on my trips helps me maintain and relive the thankful state of mind I was in while I was there.
I’m lucky to have traveled extensively and my favorite international destination is the Dominican Republic. During the last 17 years I’ve visited every corner of the country. I’ll always be amazed by its vibrant beauty and its people.
I print my own work on a variety of media. Call me old school, but I don’t believe a photograph is a photograph until it’s printed. I especially like printing large-format, immersive images on fine-art papers and canvases.
