Contemporary Folk Art Collages

My mission is to create innovative, high quality, contemporary folk art collages, 3D assemblies from rescued, recycled industrial materials. My work has a whimsical, fantastic look with animals and birds in oriental type landscapes. I am an intuitive artist who does not work from sketches. Pieces just seem to “belong.” There isn’t a way I can explain why this is, It just is.

Years ago, I had a boring job. They discarded lots of unusable carton shipping labels and other packaging. Coming from a long line of “makers,” I rescued materials from the trash. Using my artistic instincts and the company’s pen knife I made 4×6 label sized artworks. Soon I made larger pieces enhanced by “free” address labels and sticker backgrounds.

I use challenging and odd color combinations because I rescue or interrupt the trash of others and myself. My influences are from Impressionism, Oriental prints and scroll paintings, European etchings and ink line drawings. Plus, my passion for science fiction which causes me to accept ideas that might be different.

Encouraged by fellow workers and family, I put some in salvaged frames to give as gifts, and entered my first art fair.
