Artist Statement

I have a passion for jewelry and working with metal. As a metalsmith I enjoy working with and manipulating various types of metal. I enjoy the fun and beauty of etching copper and brass, and have achieved some interesting vintage effects with etching and different finishes. In addition to etching copper, I’ve been creating quite a few copper pieces using fold forming techniques. In addition to the metals I work with I have been know to incorporate vintage pieces and artifacts into my jewelry.

Whether it’s working with sterling silver, copper sheet, vintage jewelry, license plates, or other salvage material, I believe each piece of jewelry I create is a small piece of art. My jewelry is as diverse and individual as people are. The pieces I make are meant to be worn and enjoyed.

Besides a passion for jewelry I have a passion for photography. My photographs capture the world around me … from sunrise to sunset and beyond. My work is driven by light. I am an observer of nature, color and how light plays in the environment. It silhouettes, highlights and most importantly brings out color where it was once hidden by darkness. I like to play with light. What is the best perspective to see how the light interacts … from above, below or at eye level? I move around the subject to see the best in my subject matter.

Many of my photos feature native flowers/plants and sunrises/sunset, but do include landscapes, urban-scapes, abstracts and non-native flowers. I often shoot in the two-acre prairie remnant in my backyard. The prairie is always changing and provides an abundance of different subjects.

I’m always trying to push my vision and can often be seen toting my camera wherever I go, always ready when the next photographic opportunity or subject presents itself.
